Steve Silverman

Steve Silverman is a retired science teacher, a business owner, a patent holder, a podcaster, a talented storyteller, and an all-around great guy. Early in his career he began collecting unusual stories in order to grab his students’ attention. His quirky stories, his fun labs, and his annual "set my tie on fire" day led his students to start an annual Steve Silverman Day which was celebrated every May at Chatham High School in Chatham New York.

In 1994, Steve started his Useless Information website which was one of the first 25,000 websites on what was then the new World Wide Web. The websites’ popularity exploded when it was chosen by Yahoo! as its website Pick of the Week in July 1997. This led Steve to share more of his stories in book form. Einstein’s Refrigerator was published in 2001, Lindbergh’s Artificial Heart in 2003, and The Flip Side of History in 2020. He began entertaining and informing people with his Useless Information Podcast in 2008.

A lifelong animal lover, Steve and his brother also owned an online pet business that specialized in hermit crab supplies. In his spare time, Steve enjoys remodeling his 100-year-old home, finding interesting antiques, and biking with his wife Mary Jane.
